DETROIT IN PRINT · PRIMARY SOURCES

THE DETROIT PRESS.

Before television news became immediate and before the internet made every headline searchable, Detroit encountered itself on paper. Newspapers recorded crime, courts, politics, labor, neighborhoods, automobiles, entertainment, prices, deaths, celebrations, and the ordinary rhythms of city life.

This archive treats the press as part of Detroit history in its own right—not merely as a source for the Ralph Palmer story.

EDITORIAL RULE

Detroit gets the deep dive. The books keep their secrets.

The press archive can go deeply into Detroit history and newspaper culture. When a newspaper item overlaps a Book One or Book Two case, the website may show an archival glimpse or brief setup, but the investigation, discoveries, turns, and outcome remain reserved for the book.
