Crime in print.
For most Detroiters, a police investigation became public through the newspaper. Arrests, identifications, court appearances and police statements could move quickly from a station house or courthouse into the next edition.
Newspaper reporting is invaluable, but it is not the same thing as a police report or court record. This project compares the printed account with other surviving evidence whenever possible, especially when early reporting changed as a case developed.
