During Prohibition, legal Canadian liquor and illegal importation into the United States made the Detroit River an obvious smuggling corridor. Boats, shoreline access and winter conditions became part of a cat-and-mouse enforcement problem that involved more than one jurisdiction.
The website treats the river’s reputation carefully. A dramatic story of ice, boats or rum-running belongs here only when a contemporary source supports the place and event being described.
