Ralph entered active service in April 1944 and spent his Army Air Forces years stateside. His record connects him to South Plains Army Air Field at Lubbock and later to Big Spring Army Air Field, home of an AAF bombardier school.
He entered the aircrew-training pipeline, but the war changed faster than the training system. In May 1945, as victory in Europe altered manpower needs, the Army Air Forces redirected men from pre-aviation training into other assignments. Ralph was not sent overseas.
His service record also reflects the practical skills he brought from Detroit and the responsibilities he acquired in uniform, including machinist and headquarters work. By the end of his service he had reached the rank of Corporal.

Bombardier-school country
Orders moved him to Big Spring as the AAF continually adjusted training and manpower.
The war changes course
With Europe secured, training priorities shifted. Ralph's service remained in the United States until separation.
The public site keeps the military story concise; personal service paperwork and identifying numbers remain out of public view.
