THE TRADE
In 1938, Ralph moved from Detroit school life into the industrial world of the Ford Motor Company's apprentice program. The work combined academic study with shop training in tool making—precision work built around measurement, mechanical drawings, machining and the ability to turn a plan into working metal.
The surviving diploma records completion of the shop and academic course in tool making and was awarded on November 19, 1941.
That training became the technical foundation for the industrial years that followed.
